VISCOELASTIC PROPERTIES OF COATED BOARDS
Abstract:
For determination of viscoelastic properties of polymer materials different methods could be used. One of the possibilities to obtain some information about viscoelastic behaviour of papers and boards is study of stress strain curve. This was also the main aspect of our investigation, determination of viscoelastic properties of boards from the measured load versus elongation curve. In our study two kinds of boards were analysed, differing in top layer structure. The tensile properties of boards were determined with an Instron 5567 tensile testing machine. From the continuous record of load versus elongation, a stress versus strain curve was obtained and further evaluated by a special method, called DINARA. With the numerical analyse the following data were obtained: tensile strength, stretch at break, tensile energy absorption, yield stress, yield strain and yield modulus. The data obtained from the tensile test for different boards were compared and the influence of board basic properties on its viscoelstic properties was determined.

ETERMINING OPTIMAL INTERVAL OF TEHNICAL DIAGNOSTICS ON PRINTING PRESS
Abstract:
In the literature there is a certain number of models for technical diagnostics, that is the models
used to determine the optimal moment to examine the condition of the system or its part. After the examination of those models and their systematization, an original model has been made. The intention in the paper is to make a model that will be complex in the sense of relating maintenance expenses, condition parameters of the system and reliability elements of the system therefore, the aim of the paper is to create such a model that will take into account several factors for determining optimal moment for technical diagnostics, so that it can be usuable in practice. The model would be used in most technical system, but here in an example of its realization and usage in printing presses is given.

FITTING THE DIACRITIC MARKS
Abstract:
The invention of printing and movable type made possible special marks (diacritics), these marks
became commonplace. Since then, diacritics have posed a special challenge for type designers.
The design of diacritics, their size and spacing can be very important for the reader but can also
cause many problems, particularly in letter fit and line spacing. Asymmetric diacritics, especially
with asymmetric base letters, can cause problems for type designers, since they cannot simply or
symmetrically be aligned with the base character. Alignment is also affected by the angle of the
slope. Furthermore, there are multiple approaches to the vertical alignment of all diacritics. To
deal with these issues, the designer must be aware of how different diacritics affect the width of letters, the length of ascenders and height of letters. There can also be linguistic/cultural problems. The designer’s goals are harmony and balance.

THE WAY TOWARDS A NEW FORM OF BAROQUE CYRILLIC ALPHABET
Abstract:
The work covers the time and the emergence of the Civil Cyrillic, its unwilling acceptance by
Serbian Ortodox Church, Zaharije Orfelin’s reference books as well as Ivan Boldižar’s type faces
Obod and Orfelin which he derived from Zefarovic i Orfelin’s alphabets. The texts are the introductionof Professor Nedeljkovic’s typographical opus. Over the years he has felt the need for a complex typographical face throughout almost all type faces in classification. On this occasion we have prepared the new type face “Zaharijus” in the uppercase form - the variation of the subcategoryof slab serif (Claredon type).

APPLIANCE OF GREEN CHEMISTRY IN PRINTING
Abstract:
The paper is a review of using soy based printing inks and it is benchmark for implementation
of green chemistry in printing industry. Commercial printing process creates enormous amounts
of hazardous wastes (heavy metals used in coloring to petroleum-based solvents) and pollution.
Using soy oils reduces VOC emissions and creates a safer working environment for print shop
employees. They remain more stable throughout the printing process and they are made from renewable resource. Paper states the life cycle of soy based printing inks and their environmental
impacts through the use in lithographic sheet fed printing. It also represents the possibilities of
reducing waste through the use of soy-based inks instead of petroleum-based inks.

EVALUATION OF PAPER MILL WASTE APPLIANCE IN METAL-CONTAMINATED SEDIMENT REMEDIATION
Abstract:
The goal of this work is to investigate the use of the paper mill sludge in the remediation of the
metal-contaminated sediments, in relation to the sludge chemical content and the contact time
between the sediments and paper mill sludge. Efficiency of this process is monitored using the
test that measures the concentration of metals which, during a certain time period (0,7,15 and 21
days), moved from an inmobile to mobile phase (so called “leaching” tests), where they could be
considered potentially dangerous and bioaccessible. The results obtained by leaching tests showed that addition of the paper mill sludge, consisting mainly of carbonates, silicates and organic matter, signficantly lowers the concentration of available metal form.

COLOUR MANAGEMENT IN PROOFING FOR STAMP PAPERS
Abstract:
New materials, design technologies and colour rendering requirements represent great challenges
for printing companies producing postage stamps. These are traditional products of Hungarian
State Printing Company too. Approval of stamp artwork before printing is implemented through
digital proofs nowadays. In case of stamp papers, the digital proof and the substrate of print differ
significantly from the point of luminescence. The proof is highly, while the print substrate is
lightly brightened optically, or for example the security stamp paper is optically not brightened at
all. This visual difference cause serious problem in contract proofing, in ICC profile making and
in the pressroom too. International practice in digital colour management generally suggests the
usage of UV emission filter for the colorimetry of resolution patterns. However, it is not known,
what level of colour modification is caused to the system by UV emission filters as regards stamp
papers. We were looking for an answer to this issue through our investigations.

THE POSSIBILITIES OF APPLICATION OF REFLEXION DENSITOMETERS IN CTP DEVICE CALIBRATION
Abstract:
During the exploatation of a CtP platessetter variations in the production conditions demands the
of repeatel of calibration of the device. In the paper are presented the possibilities of the application of reflection densitometers and CCD plate reader in the measurement of halftone values which are used as correction values for calibration. Integral optical density gained with the reflection densitometer was trasnformed in tone values with the Murray Davies and Yule Nielsen equations with different n correction factors. The measurements were done on three different CtP plates and the results of the measurements are presented. On the basis of measured results we can conclude that the application of the reflexion densitometers in the CtP platesetters calibration is possible with ensuring some necessary preconditions.

ANALYSIS OF THERMAL CTP OFFSET PLATES AND PRINTS
Abstract:
CtP offset technology of platemaking nowdays takes the lead ower the conventional technology.
Dinamic changes and fast development, which are the main characteristic of XXI century, demand fast, uniform and price-friendly graphic products. CtP technology is exactly the one which comprehend these demands. In the GATF study “CtP Performance Study” in which several different CtP ofset plates were involved, the best results, in terms of analysed parametars, showed thermal offset plates. In this paper, analysis of two positiv thermal CtP offset plates-Presstek Anthem and Fuji LH-PIE and prints were made. Parametars which were monitored and analysed in terms of ISO 12647-2(1996) standard, are: dot gain on printing plate and print (for 40% and 80% fields), density (Dt), trapping and printing contrast (K80%).

COLORIMETRIC AND VISUAL ANALYSIS OF THE DIGITAL PRINTING REPRODUCTION
Abstract:
Digital printing similar to the other printing processes has its own variable factors which influence
the colour reproduction. While the other printing techniques have their appropriate ISO
standards which are stipulating the parameters and control values, this ISO standard doesn’t exist
for digital printing at this moment. In the paper the quality control of two different digital printing
systems was done, where values used for the quality control of other printing techniques as
optical density, tone value increase and colour gamut, as visual assessment of the paper surfaces
was measured and evaluated. The results have shown differences in the colour reproduction of the
different digital printing systems.
